OK so this is great if you cannot be bothered to make proper mince pies. Literally the easies thing in the world.
OK. It's December. It's Christmas. We have to have mince pies. This is a really easy recipe - originally a Paul Hollywood but I have added a bit more sugar. Give it a go. Rob, Elena and I made these and they are fantastic! Check out the video below! It is Thanksgiving tomorrow and so this is part of my homage to that day. Doughnuts (or, if we are to be all American about this, Donuts) are one of my favourite things; this recipe is one of Paul Hollywood's - only he uses Strong White Bread Flour (which I did not have), nutmeg (also absent) and no Mars Bar (wooop we love Mars Bar).
The dough takes hours to make but the frying is super quick and quite fun! Make sure you have the extractor fan on - set the smoke alarm off about 5 times.... Blink and you miss it. That is how quick and easy these are. Taste great. Look funky. Helped me with some Equity and Trust law reading...
OK I feel I owe an apology to the Bakewell Tart for this. I did not have any almonds and had to use up my shortcrust pastry as it was going out of date. This was really good though so give it a go!
OK this is kind of a cookie and kind of a cake. I am still yet to perfect the cookie. The trick to making it more cookie-y is leaving it to cool completely (it goes hard). The problem is I want instant gratification and so just ate it when it was part cookie, part cake. In any case, it tastes great and is a great 5 minute sugar kick!
If you have an oven, here is the full blown cookie recipe! I had no idea what these were before doing them. Turns out they are like mini cinnamon dough ball cookie things. Very good! From the "Nosh For Students" recipe book. Fab.
This was improvised in conjunction with our Gü recipe book. Taste great. Cookies are always a winner.
It is hard not to like rocky road. This one is amazing. Inspired by the Gü cookbook my housemates gave me. Divine and easy recipe. Give it a shot. This is spectacular. It's Millionaire's Shortbread - but better! No denying it. Elena introduced it to me and it is glorious. Do it. Will change your life. OK, this was a mistake. I was trying to make fudge. But somehow it did not work as fudge. However, this is AMAZINGLY GOOD. You are supposed to use peanut butter but I did not do so because my mum is allergic to it so tried with ordinary butter. This may be why it did not work as it was meant to. Still, this is disgustingly good and would work as a pudding after a great meal. Best served chilled!
Everyone loves cheesecake. This is as easy as it is going to get. No gelatine or anything like that but it still works. This makes a nice light cheesecake that is perfect after a good meal. Make well in advance and ideally leave it to set overnight.
Flapjack is just one of those things that people like. The ingredients for this recipe are simple and it takes no time to prepare. Faaaabbbbb.
It has been a hectic weekend but the food production continues. Today we had to rush and get a train as we were off to the Barbican festival where we saw a fab ukulele orchestra!
Thus, this had to be something quick. This was Elena's idea and was nice and refreshing - in this kind of heat you don't actually feel like massive breakfast so this is perfect. Give it a go. Very few foods bring as much joy as butter shortbread. It is easy to make and hard to resist! This is one of Paul Hollywood's - it is great so give it a go!
This is simply divine. It comes from a book called "Art of the Tart" (great name) and it's just delish! It is actually surprisingly light. Enjoy. Germanic and Charlotte came over the other day and we had a lovely evening. This is well worth a go.
The pancake. A favourite of everyone and anyone. The french have crêpes, which are great, but the Americans have these, which are the dogs bollocks of pancakes.
I went to New York a couple of years ago and went to this fantastic place called Bubby's for breakfast. There I had the most amazing tower of pancakes ever. This attempt, however, is not directly taken from any recipe book - this is an improvised one that just worked brilliantly. I have never actually tried pancakes this way before and I thoroughly recommend it. As you can see, it looks simply divine. The only problem with things that are absolutely full of chocolate is the potential guilt after you have eaten a whole tray load. The beauty of flapjacks is that they just don't feel so bad for you. These ones even have fruit in so they are basically healthy and one of your five a day...
I am currently doing some work in London so the whole cooking thing is becoming a bit more difficult. However, I did find time to make some chocolate brownies! This recipe comes from a book I was given many years ago; give it a go.
The brownies are nice and gooey, which is how I like them. |
