Super Easy Apple Tart

23/2/2016

Comments

So some people make tarts by doing it upside down. They chuck in their apple and cinnamon and sugar and then the pastry and then bake it. But this seemed way to risky for me. So I did it this way. My cunning tactic was to chuck a lid on top of the whole thing whilst it baked so that the apple did not dry out. It worked really well!

Give it a shot and let us know what you think.
Super Easy Apple Tart
Ingredients
  • Puff pastry (I used bought stuff)
  • 3 apples, I used "Jazz Apples" but anything red will do I think
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 6 tsp caster sugar
  • 30g butter

Method

Grab a baking tin with a removable bottom. Cut out some baking paper so that it fits in the bottom.

Now roll out your puff pastry so that it's nice and thin (about 4mm ish I reckon) and then cut around it - make sure that it's slightly too big so that the pastry comes up the sides.  Pop the pastry in your baking tin.

Now quarter your apples and cut out the core of each piece. Peel the skin off too. Cut into think bits (see video). Lay the pieces on the pastry, starting at the outside edge and working in.

Now grab a bowl and mix 2 tsp of cinnamon and 5 tsp of caster sugar into the bowl. Note that's 5 tsp of sugar, not the 6 stated above!

Gently sprinkle most of the cinnamon sugar on top of the apples; it should be well covered. You probably won't need all of the mix. See the video if unsure.

Now sprinkle that last teaspoon of sugar on top.

Grab your butter and cut it into small chunks and pop it at strategic places on the tart.

Now for the cunning bit - grab a large lid and cover the whole thing. Chuck it in the oven for 40 mins. I checked it every 15 mins and lifted the lid to let some of the steam out.

Enjoy with vanilla ice cream!
