So I made this cake for the BYO mentor hour we had the other day. Highlights include some rather amazing banana muffins by Hannah, Tim's chocolate cookies and Alexandra's rather splendid heart shaped carrot cake. And there was even more (shortbread, chocolate baskets etc).I know. Pretty funky stuff. This was my contribution to the evening. As you can see the cake bit is a tad thin because I used larger cake tins than I normally have (I stole Elena's). But I think it went down well. Milk and cookies is the classic winning combination. What better way of doing it than by drinking milk from a cookie cup? #winning. And there should be enough cookie dough left over to make a cheeky cookie whilst you wait. Went down well with the house! This is the same recipe as the Barking Baking Chocolate Cookies. Share with a friend as this is a monster to eat on your own! So some people make tarts by doing it upside down. They chuck in their apple and cinnamon and sugar and then the pastry and then bake it. But this seemed way to risky for me. So I did it this way. My cunning tactic was to chuck a lid on top of the whole thing whilst it baked so that the apple did not dry out. It worked really well! Give it a shot and let us know what you think. Make this and feel like a ninja. I've always wanted to make one but I never I thought I could because I don't have the special ball ornament thingy. Turns out you don't need one... A balloon is perfect. So if you fancy a mini pud but don't want to bake an entire cake then this could be the thing for you. Don't get me wrong I love cake in a cup but there's nothing like a proper cake that's been baked in the oven. You can have problems with them drying out but this recipe works really well so give it a go. You can, of course, share it. But that's up to you. In a bid to be nice I made this for Elena (and obviously me too) as I thought it might be nice as a bit of a Valentine's Day thing. I got the heart shaped cookie cutters from Anne, my amazing college mentor (shout out to Anne!) but you could cut one out of some paper/trace it/get arty and just do it by eye. To be honest it's the thought that counts so just give it a shot. This is a no cook recipe too so you can do it in advance and feel like a pro when you do the grand reveal with absolutely no effort. #winning. When BuzzFeed did their recipe they just used bought 'brownie mix'. Where's the satisfaction in that? Here's a cheeky recipe for super fab brownies using three ingredients. And it's got a cheeky vanilla cheesecake-y top. Living the dream. So this is like our Three Ingredient Brownie recipe but with a cheeky vanilla cheesecake topping! FUNKY. Did it with proper Nutella and it's just gorgeous. I am a huge fan! They're really lovely and moist. Went down very well! I cut it into 6 large slices. So this recipe came from Sally's Baking Addiction, which is a really fab site for all things sweet. She uses Nutella and Graham crackers but I'm in the UK and they don't have Graham crackers over here so I used digestives. Perfect. Give it a go. Very simple to do and you'll feel like a pro. This is seriously funky and unbelievably easy. I made this because I spent pretty much the whole day yesterday trying to make a beef brisket thing for supper but it was a disaster! So to make myself feel better, I made this. And have eaten most of it too unfortunately. Anyhow, I reckon this would be a fab pud for date night as you can do it in advance and it looks amazing so you'll feel like a total pro. Give it a shot! Enjoy! OMG. This is amazing. It'll rock your world. It's obviously not as healthy as a fruit-only ice cream but by changing the base to banana you're making it much better. And it tastes FAB. So easy that you have no excuse not to do it. Not really a hugggeee fan of gingerbread any time apart from round christmas. This recipe is based on one from BBC Good Food and works a treat. You may have seen my attempt at making a gingerbread house (it didn't work!). This is a difference recipe and is lovely. Will try a house again at some point when I have recovered a little bit..! Cora was the chief decorator here, which is why they look lovely. See some of my attempts in the vid below. Super easy and super healthy. This is a great snack and a fabulous way to get some fruit in you! Watch the video. This is just like a bread and butter pudding but with Jaffa Cakes. It's amazing. This makes one. So Monty Bojangles sent me some "Flutter Scotch" to review. Basically they're truffles. And they're absolutely fabulous. Top quality chocolate. Something you want after a fab meal. I made this for the house and we've all had loads of it. Really delish. We all really enjoyed it. Give it a shot. You can really see why the chocolate has a "great taste" award. If you are planning a dinner party or want to impress someone #basicallytinder then do give this a go! I was busy watching some videos the other day and came across one by Gemma Stafford. She was doing something similar to this and it works brilliantly. Enjoy! If you are tired of reading, working or just plain sitting, why not take a break and make this truly epic cake in a cup. It's fab. Make sure you use a large cup (sports direct mugs are perfect). There are so many great words in the title to this post. It's so easy to do and tastes fab. You absolutely must try it. Watch the video below.
This is actually a Nigella recipe and really fab. It's great if you need a quick hit of energy. Give it a go. Make sure you use the vanilla, it's what makes it so good. Ingredients
Method Crack the egg into a mug and whisk up. Pour this egg into a tin/bowl big enough for one piece of bread to lie flat in. Now add in the vanilla extract and stir about. Cut the bread into triangles and lay it flat in the tin. After a few minutes, when it has soaked up some of the egg, flip the bread and sprinkle sugar over it (about 1 pudding spoon). Whilst you are waiting, pop a frying pan on the heat with a large knob of butter. Gently melt it. After you have soaked both sides of the bread. Pop the bread in, sugar side up, and let it fry gently. After a few minutes the bread will begin to brown nicely; turn it over. You'll probably need a spatular and a fork/knife for this. Let it fry. It shouldn't take long. Whilst it is frying, sprinkle out some sugar on a plate. When the bread is done, take it out (carefully, it'll be hot) and turn it about in the sugar so it's lovely and coated. Do this for both and pop on a plate. Chuck a hunk of strawberry jam on top and then enjoy OK so this is the easiest recipe in the world. We all love brownies but they are a bit of a faff to make. These are absolutely amazing. And they're just flour, chocolate spread and eggs. Do it. If you have more time, you can try our original Oreo Chocolate Brownie recipe here. When life gives you lemons, make lemon drizzle cake! Kathy and James made one the other day and I thought it was fab so I had a go at my own version. This recipe is based on one from the BBC site but I didn't use 4 eggs as I couldn't see the point. I used two eggs. Check out the video and subscribe to our channel! I had to do some packing the other day and in a bit to procrastibake I made this... Like a kind of pancake panini cookie thing. Enjoy! I have absolutely no idea why my face is upside down.
If you want something healthy and delicious this is for you. Peaches are just the most amazing things and probably my favourite fruit. Use a small banana for this (or half a large one) as we don't want to overpower the taste. Let us know how yours worked out - get in touch on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat (all our usernames are BarkingBaking so just ping us there!). Ingredients
Method Cut the peach, apple and banana into slices then put onto a plate with some baking paper (this helps stop it sticking to the plate). Freeze overnight. Blend in a blender when it's frozen solid. It's quite stubborn so you'll need to keep scraping it down with a fork. Enjoy. Makes about 2.5 ramekins of ice cream. This is another addition to our healthy ice cream series! It's great. Not going to lie, it is arguably more of a sorbet. This recipe makes just one serving so if you want more, double up the ingredients. Got to start packing for my return to Durham soon and this was a perfect way to procrastinate... Ingredients
Method Cut the peach into slices (no need to skin it but do remove the stone). Pop the peach and the blueberries on a plate with some baking paper. Freeze overnight. Bung the frozen fruit into a blender and whizz until it's gone smooth - you'll need to use a fork to push the mix down the sizes of the blender. Eat! This really is gorgeous. Ice cream. Healthy. Fruit. You don't really get anything better. No added sugar. Just fabulous. Do it. Ingredients
Method Peel the bananas and cut them up. Hull (ie cut the green bit off) the strawberries and cut them into halves. Pop it all on some baking paper on a plate then freeze (overnight works great). Then when you want to make the ice cream, blitz everything in a blender until it's super smooth. You will probably need to poke a fork in and scrape the fruit down towards the cutty bit of the blender a couple of times. Serve immediately or pop in a pot, cover and freeze - be aware this (obviously) makes it go hard and it will not be the soft gorgeous stuff you get when you eat it immediately. |
