Saw some Stilton and couldn't resist. I am pleased to announce this is vegetarian #CowRightsRepresent. Very easy. Very nice. The first time I did this I used a tin where the bottom comes out else the milk leaks into the oven; this resulted in a tart. Tasted lovely but not worth cleaning the inside of the oven out every time! If you use a proper dish it makes a lovely quiche! This is so healthy it is unreal. Literally nothing wrong with it. Tastes delicious too! Very easy to do. Don't be intimidated by butternut squash either - remember to peel it. This was inspired by one of Jamie Oliver's recipes - he puts a lot more stuff in it but this tasted great so I really wouldn't worry about it!
Not going to lie I found this hard to photografy (that is my new word - pronounced: fot-og-raf-i) but I can assure you it was fab. It is Thanksgiving tomorrow and so this is part of my homage to that day. Doughnuts (or, if we are to be all American about this, Donuts) are one of my favourite things; this recipe is one of Paul Hollywood's - only he uses Strong White Bread Flour (which I did not have), nutmeg (also absent) and no Mars Bar (wooop we love Mars Bar).
The dough takes hours to make but the frying is super quick and quite fun! Make sure you have the extractor fan on - set the smoke alarm off about 5 times.... Made some lemon cupcakes the other day. Problem was they take time. This really doesn't! Hungry? Do it! Having spent the last 18 years in education, one thing that I have learned to be very nervous of is what I call "industrial" scrambled eggs. This is the yellowish mess you find in any canteen. This is no reflection on the catering, it is simply that scrambled eggs are something that should be cooked at home. Not for hundreds of people.
So here you go. Scrambled eggs. The proper way. This is a Paul Hollywood recipe that I have adapted slightly. It is gorgeous. Eat straight away and/or pop it in the fridge and eat for the next couple of days (I recommend re-heating it in the microwave). If you are vegetarian then don't add the meat.
This is a good, healthy lunch. Takes about half an hour by the time you have found everything.
Omelettes are healthy, easy and use up stuff. These mushrooms are left over from the mushroom risotto the other night. A good lunch.
So easy it's unreal. Fills you up. Get on it for lunch. Ingredients
Method Just fry the mushrooms in some butter and Worcester. Serve with buttered toast. This is a combined Rob and Hugo risotto and we are very pleased with it! Very easy and will fill you up. Give it a go. If you are vegetarian just don't add the ham!
This is exactly like peach pudding but with tinned mangos instead. Really really good. Super pudding and it only takes about 10 minutes.
Toast a slice of the Olive, Basil and Sun Dried Tomato Bread then eat with goats cheese, tomato and lettuce. Easy as pie.
I am now back at Durham - the frozen north! Made this because I have not made a cake in ages; bit of a house warming thing too. I shall try and blog as much as I can but obviously I have work to do (arhhgg) and since this is my second year, it all actually counts now!
This is spectacular. It's Millionaire's Shortbread - but better! No denying it. Elena introduced it to me and it is glorious. Do it. Will change your life. I really made a mistake here. I forgot to add the yeast. I realised this after an hour of it not rising - so instead of starting again, I just kneaded it in. The dough at this stage was at what I like to call the “soft brick” stage, by which I mean that you could probably break a window with it, but not hammer a tent peg in with it. Not that helpful I realise but there you go.
Anyhow, this recipes is actually great and I will replicate it. The bread is definitely firmer but this works well since the inside is all olives and tomato and so quite moist. This recipe comes from the new Crumbs Family Cookbook which my grandmother very kindly got me. I can now confirm that it is fabulous and these went down a treat. The only slight change I made was to add a scoop of chocolate spread because I am obsessed!
Enjoy. This is something that my dad has always made. Ever since I was little, on special occasions he would declare that he was going to treat us all to some of his "amazing dauphinoise potatoes". We would all inwardly groan, but really this is unfair. They are the most luxurious potatoes in the world. Nothing beats them. They are creamy and delicious! Furthermore, they are not actually that difficult to do - the ingredients are simple thing; there is nothing bizarre: potatoes, onion, cheese and milk are the key ingredients. Nothing more.
Give it a shot. It's fantastic. Love this. Perfect little pudding, such an easy recipe. It is worth noting that the cake top bit is exactly the same ingredients as the crumble on this Apple Crumble only without the egg... just saying!
This is one of Jamie Oliver's recipes and is something to go with something else - I just had it with fish grilled on the BBQ. Very nice and can be a great salad; almost prefer it cold!
Soooooo goood! Peanut butter and chocolate in a beautiful plaited loaf. Life doesn't get much better. Different flavour in each plait. Amazing.
I think we can all safely agree that this is a fantastic idea. Everyone likes chocolate spread on their toast - but this cooks the chocolate spread into the bread itself! It is the best thing ever! Looks great, tastes great. What is not to like?! Boom.
Everyone loves cheesecake. This is as easy as it is going to get. No gelatine or anything like that but it still works. This makes a nice light cheesecake that is perfect after a good meal. Make well in advance and ideally leave it to set overnight.
It was a little hectic when I made this and as a result I did not take any pictures. Instead, you have a lovely panoramic one which I took this summer. Hope it calms everything down. This one makes for a great breakfast. The challenge is the hollandaise sauce but this recipe is actually quite simple so give it a go.
What a recipe! So good. Give it a shot. The ingredients are cheap so it makes sense to make your own.
