It started, as indeed most good things do, with cake...
I've always enjoyed a bit of cooking. However, prior to my second year at Durham reading Law I had never actually had to cook properly. It had always been a cheeky cake or some baked beans or perhaps even an egg but never anything more. So when I realised that I was going to be living out I thought it sensible to start to keep some kind of record so that I could successfully repeat recipes that worked and improve upon those that needed work. Thus, I started BarkingBaking.com.
It was, therefore, just supposed to be my own place for recipes that I knew I could trust to work. However, it has now grown into something more, with lots of people using the recipes. I've been a finalist in the Durham Blueprint Enterprise Challenge, as well as being shortlisted in the Virgin "New Things" Competition (which is on-going - watch this space!) with Barking Baking Bundles, packs of just the right ingredients for our recipes. If you have something you think we should try - I am always on the look out for funky new stuff - please submit it and I'll try it! This is your recipe book too. We now have a column on The Bubble and The National Student, as well as having featured in The Palatinate. Watch out world, Barking Baking is coming! |
Who is the Barking Baker?
Aloha! My name is Hugo, I am 19 and I am reading Law at Durham University. I am a keen pianist so please check out some of my music. I like a good game of hockey and I have recently taken up a bit of rowing, which I am thoroughly enjoying.
Cooking has always been about having a laugh. As my housemates will testify, I am always willing to try something a bit mad, a bit (wait for it...) barking, but I guess that's how you learn.
If you want to get in touch, please email me at [email protected]. I am always up for a chat.
