Who doesn't like pancakes? No one. Honey and bacon is a really great combination for a bit of breakfast in the morning/a nice lunch. This is very easy, give it a go.
OK so the other night I tried to make a ham, boursin and olive tart thing - it sounds good but something just went wrong. Not disheartened I then tried this. The cake recipe is based on the one I use for Peach and Mango Pudding and is fab. Baileys is great. Don't add too much; you want it subtle, suave and sophisticated.
Loved this. I have tried it before with real raspberries but it went soggy; using jam prevents this. Got inspired by a lawyer friend (Peng) who was eating a white chocolate and raspberry muffin! Ellie was the first person to try it and it went down very well I think! Give it a go, it's a tasty way to procrastinate.
WOOOPPP. 200 recipes alert! Exciting times. We are having serious problems with our oven at the moment; thus, this is a pudding not a cake due to its seriously gungy nature. It is kind of brownie-y. Very nice though.
I think this recipe came from my old art teacher who is something of a star baker! These are gorgeous but actually very easy to do. Just make the dough and leave it to rise and that's basically it. Rock cakes are great. They are harder than your average cake. They have quite a lot of flour in them which is what makes them slightly more "rocky". If you want a really rocky look, don't roll the dough into balls as I have done below, instead grab a fork and kind of scrap them onto the baking tray.
Lots of cinnamon in these as I think that Christmas is all about a little bit of spice/being slightly exotic. Hope you enjoy them! So this is an adapted Mary Berry (we love you!) recipe. Actually introduced to me by my mother who had it when she stayed with my Great Uncle and Aunt (Charles and Mary) on her way up to Durham to pick me up. She was raving about it, so we had to try it. It's delish!
This is a great cheeky pudding that takes no time at all. It is SUPER gloopy but absolutely delish. A sugar shot. Chuck it in the oven just as you are sitting down for some supper and it'll be done by the time you have finished eating.
This recipe was taken from Jamie Oliver's website but was actually done by a lady named Maddie Rix. It is amazing! I have always been a little hesitant to leave out flour - it is such a staple that it just seems wrong to have it loiter in the cupboard. However, this has changed my views. Get on it. It is cheap and tastes a bit like brownie (i.e. fab). We've affectionately nicknamed it "cowpat cake" because it looks like one...as a result it is pretty difficult to present nicely. But it does taste gorgeous. Now it is December (and basically Christmas) I find myself yearning cake. This smells particularly gorgeous. There is something deeply satisfying about this cake - it is sticky and sweet, yet surprisingly light... #ListenToMe #Arty
I did not have time/was too lazy to peel the apple; from a purely aesthetic point of view I would peel them if you have time! This is largely the same recipe as the Bread and Butter Pudding recipe I posted the other day but this time it has two layers and two different types of chocolate! SPECTACULAR.
We had this as part of our Thanksgiving pudding! Absolutely incredible. Rob, our resident engineer, assembled this one beautifully and made a very good call about adding more milk mid-way through the cooking. The top needs to be slightly soggy. Not crisp, but must have some chew to it. It is Thanksgiving tomorrow and so this is part of my homage to that day. Doughnuts (or, if we are to be all American about this, Donuts) are one of my favourite things; this recipe is one of Paul Hollywood's - only he uses Strong White Bread Flour (which I did not have), nutmeg (also absent) and no Mars Bar (wooop we love Mars Bar).
The dough takes hours to make but the frying is super quick and quite fun! Make sure you have the extractor fan on - set the smoke alarm off about 5 times.... OK I feel I owe an apology to the Bakewell Tart for this. I did not have any almonds and had to use up my shortcrust pastry as it was going out of date. This was really good though so give it a go!
Made some lemon cupcakes the other day. Problem was they take time. This really doesn't! Hungry? Do it! This is just fantastic. Chocolate cake is the best kind of cake. This is No. 5 in the Cambridge "Microwave Week"! Suuucccchh fun! Since we put chocolate in pre-cooking there are strands of chocolate all through the cake...! It's lovely. Give it a go. Love this. I think that honey may be the secret to perfect cake. Have a go. No 4 "Microwave Week". Ingredients
Method Mix everything up into a paste with a fork! Cook for 1 minute. OK chaps. It is the mid-term chill-out week in Cambridge. I have a good friend in Caius College and she asked if we could provide some easy recipes for food in the microwave as they do not have any proper ovens. Outrageous.
So here you go. A nice cake in a cup to start with. The beauty of these is they take no time, are a shot of sweet gorgeousness and you need hardly any ingredients. Check back here tomorrow for the next one! No butter in this - that means it's basically one of your five a day. Super easy. Super good. Welcome to the second instalment of "microwave week"! This is a nice student-y take on a classic. Takes literally a minute - I like it if you don't quite cook the whole thing through so it goes super gloopy. It'll make ya happy!
I had no idea what these were before doing them. Turns out they are like mini cinnamon dough ball cookie things. Very good! From the "Nosh For Students" recipe book. Fab.
BOOM. And Cora, the dark horse, is out and about again. She made this one for Nick's birthday. It is fabulously moist and the icing is to die for. One of Lorraine Pascale's recipes. Absolutely fantastic. Update: made this for Will's birthday recently and used a different sized cake tin; it was about 8 inches I reckon (so quite big) and it only took 15 mins to cook. So basically watch out. This cake was nothing short of staggering. Bekah made it for Chloe's birthday and it was glorious. It looks fantastic, it tastes fantastic. It is a winner. What's more, it is not even that tricky. It just takes time and care! Beautiful.
Bekah: In an endeavour to make a ‘not-your-typical’ birthday cake, I thought I’d make a rainbow cake. It’s incredibly easy to make and pretty much just a twist on the classical Victoria Sponge cake. I first did these when Trevs SCA ran a cake stall. It was great and we got involved by making these cupcakes! They all sold out so they must have been ok. You can make them with this recipe. So easy. Get involved. This time I popped some raspberries on top and this was a great addition. The other night we had a bit of a film sesh; we all sat down and watched Cool Runnings, which is all about the first Jamaican bobled team! Suuuccchhh fun! Anyhow, it turned into a bit of a baking sesh - there was chocolate cake, rocky road, cinnamon biscuits and then there was this!
I used to do art at school and the lady who taught me also happens to be one of the best cooks/bakers in the world (there is no denying it). I once did a day cooking with her and we made Chelsea Buns. I could not find the right bits and pieces for those but I could find chocolate spread! This, then, is Mrs Hollands' recipe that I have adapted somewhat. It is a divine recipe! Also, people seem to be scared of yeast. Don't be. Try this. This is exactly like peach pudding but with tinned mangos instead. Really really good. Super pudding and it only takes about 10 minutes.
I work in a sweet shop from time to time and a guy came in and told me to microwave some smarties as he said the chocolate in the middle melts, but the outer shell stays intact. So I tried it.
I have to say he was right in everything except that the colour of the shell goes a bit. Having said that, it was a properly gungy cake. A winner. Give it a shot. |
