Smoked Salmon and Avocado Summer Open Sandwich

22/5/2016

Healthy delicious snack. Fish is meant to be good brain food. I need all the help I can get. Realise this might not feel like proper student food but if you fancy treating yourself then this is a good bet.

Also check out Nina Simone in the video.

These are something of a tradition in our house - we make monstrous sandwiches with all the meat left over from the meal at lunch! It really is fantastic. Hope you have all had a splendid Christmas!

Kipper Pate

Easy. Quick. Delicious. Nothing to complain about - this is one of my favourite things ever. Biggest mistake I ever made with this was leaving it in a fridge for 3 weeks....did not smell good at the end. However, if you don't do that, it's amazing!

Bacon and Egg Sarnie

19/11/2014

Comments

I feel that too much cereal is eaten at the weekend. In college we always used to have brunch on Sunday so this is my homage to that.

Not really a recipe as it is so blindingly easy it is unreal, more of a gentle reminder that bacon and eggs exist (it can be easy to get on that cereal/toast treadmill). The only possible issue here is putting your toast on too early and eating a soggy, cold sarnie. Not about that. We have, however, addressed this issue below so fear not!

Enjoy your breakfast this weekend!

Gorgeous Olive, Basil and Sun Dried Tomato Bread

I really made a mistake here. I forgot to add the yeast. I realised this after an hour of it not rising - so instead of starting again, I just kneaded it in. The dough at this stage was at what I like to call the “soft brick” stage, by which I mean that you could probably break a window with it, but not hammer a tent peg in with it. Not that helpful I realise but there you go.

Anyhow, this recipes is actually great and I will replicate it. The bread is definitely firmer but this works well since the inside is all olives and tomato and so quite moist.

Smoked Salmon and Cucumber Bagel

I have an admission to make with this one. I did not actually do it myself. Yah, terrible. However, I did watch someone do it for me. Not the same but I am busy at the moment so this is going to have to do.

In search of lunch today I could not help but notice some people walking around with rather fetching brown paper bags. I followed the steady stream of people to its source - a lovely little café just off Maddox Street, London and there I got to create my own sandwich, or rather I got to direct someone who made it for me.

Scones

10/7/2014

Whilst there is much debate over how to pronounce these - is it s-cone or scone (as in gone)...?! There is little cause for doubt over how they taste: they are wonderful. Frankly, nothing beats a good scone with butter and jam. Indeed, perhaps the only thing that does beat it is a good scone with cream and jam.

Here's how to make them.

The Hot'n'Cold Cheese Sandwich

1/7/2014

Comments

This is genuinely one of the most underrated and to the untrained eye, strange, ideas yet.

Let me explain.

Sandwiches are generally divided into two categories: first, the sandwich - that is, bread and butter and cheese. This is a classic but quite ordinary. Second, the more exciting toastie. The main drawback here is that you really have to have a toastie maker.

There is, however, a third category. This is the Hot'n'Cold Sandwich.
