Must try.
These were super good. Really recommend. BIG shoutout to Mike M for sending this recipe in for meatballs (I have done them but they're not up yet, keep your eyes peeled!). I have adapted it for burgers and it's seriously good. Must try. I have seen these floating around all over the internet for a while now so I thought I would try it to see what all the fuss was about. Have to say they are very good. They're kind of dense and because it's just banana and egg it's pretty healthy. I think these might become my new breakfast for when I haven't got any milk for cereal. Or maybe when I feel like a pick-me-up in the summative revision season... Do give it a go. Ingredients
Method Chop your banana into a bowl and then mash it with a fork. Make sure you mash it well otherwise the pancake won't work so well. Bung in an egg and give it a good beat with your fork. (Not going to lie, it doesn't look that attractive at this stage). Fry in butter, flipping when brown. Keep the pancakes quite small. This recipe makes two. I topped both with a little honey and raspberries. Eat. Elena sent me a recipe which looked a bit like an easter bunny but they'd made special moulds for the ears. That was going to take too much time so I made it with a white chocolate easter egg as they're on sale everywhere right now. Also this is a triple decker cake - the two outer cakes are milk chocolate flavoured and the middle one is white chocolate. I was using baking tins which are 7 inches in diameter and 1 inch deep. If you are using bigger tins then you'll definitely need to up the quantities in the cakes. This should be fine though because the flour, butter and sugar quantities are all the same so as long as you do the same to everything then it should be fine. If you prefer something more simple for Easter then check this Chocolate Easter Cake out. So I tried to make this 3 times this week. That's a lot of chocolate and cream. The problem I was having was that if you do the white chocolate in the same way as the other chocolates then it doesn't hold its shape. As in, it stays runny. That's not cool. Doing it this way, we make a fab, crisp white chocolate layer just on top of the biscuit base. It works perfectly. Suggest eating with a fork to get through it though. I had some left over chicken after the kievs so I thought I'd adapt a great recipe for rabbit from the Gü ch0colate book I've got (thanks again glorious housemates). That recipe is amazing - Elena and I have done it before but the problem was that it can be a tad difficult to get hold of rabbit (I'll blog it at some point). So I was wondering whether it would be possible to use chicken instead. It works great. Especially if you roast some veg to go with it. This recipe did me 4 meals. I had a really lovely evening last night with Will and Vicki; they made the biggest melting chocolate ball I have ever seen. Over a kilo of chocolate. Unreal. Anyway, this recipe was a bit experimental but very good. Had some fudge around so thought I'd make some chocolate cookies but with a wonderful fudgy core. GORGEOUS. Do it. For when you just need something to munch on. Fast. It's the closest thing to a proper brownie I've come across (and is basically this recipe but for one). Give it a go! All you need is a microwave. So I made this a while ago with Elena but didn't blog it because I didn't really know what I was doing. I've now had a play around with the recipe and I think it's good. Chicken Kiev is one of those things I think people often buy from the shop ready made but it works out cheaper to just make it yourself if you buy a big pack of chicken and then do other stuff with it later in the week. Anyhow, hope you enjoy! Don't forget to like the facebook page! There is a bakery in Prague making these (traditionally called Trdelnik) and their cones went kind of viral this week so I though it'd be awesome to try and make one - prague is a bit of a way away. Actually very easy to make. I used a beer bottle to wrap it around. Watch the video. Please like my facebook page and subscribe to my channel for more! Enjoy. I kind of adapted a recipe from the Chocolate Chocolate and More website. This recipe makes about 3. I think the first time I ever had Redbush or "roobios" tea was in Berlin for Fred's 18th. I loved it then and I love it now. Elena very kindly got me this after I had some at her house (I think Venus originally got it...). It's amazing stuff. Can get it from Tesco I believe. You could use any tea. I'm kind of obsessed with tea. Glorious. It smells AMAZING. Went down well in the house I think. Enjoy. I got chatting to some chaps last year who do something amazing with bananas apparently; sadly I never got to try any of their stuff so this is a barking baking take on the idea of using up an old banana. It's really good. Try it. It's hot then it's cold. It's glorious and gold. #RudeBanana. So I made this cake for the BYO mentor hour we had the other day. Highlights include some rather amazing banana muffins by Hannah, Tim's chocolate cookies and Alexandra's rather splendid heart shaped carrot cake. And there was even more (shortbread, chocolate baskets etc).I know. Pretty funky stuff. This was my contribution to the evening. As you can see the cake bit is a tad thin because I used larger cake tins than I normally have (I stole Elena's). But I think it went down well. Milk and cookies is the classic winning combination. What better way of doing it than by drinking milk from a cookie cup? #winning. And there should be enough cookie dough left over to make a cheeky cookie whilst you wait. Went down well with the house! This is the same recipe as the Barking Baking Chocolate Cookies. Share with a friend as this is a monster to eat on your own! So some people make tarts by doing it upside down. They chuck in their apple and cinnamon and sugar and then the pastry and then bake it. But this seemed way to risky for me. So I did it this way. My cunning tactic was to chuck a lid on top of the whole thing whilst it baked so that the apple did not dry out. It worked really well! Give it a shot and let us know what you think. Make this and feel like a ninja. I've always wanted to make one but I never I thought I could because I don't have the special ball ornament thingy. Turns out you don't need one... A balloon is perfect. So if you fancy a mini pud but don't want to bake an entire cake then this could be the thing for you. Don't get me wrong I love cake in a cup but there's nothing like a proper cake that's been baked in the oven. You can have problems with them drying out but this recipe works really well so give it a go. You can, of course, share it. But that's up to you. In a bid to be nice I made this for Elena (and obviously me too) as I thought it might be nice as a bit of a Valentine's Day thing. I got the heart shaped cookie cutters from Anne, my amazing college mentor (shout out to Anne!) but you could cut one out of some paper/trace it/get arty and just do it by eye. To be honest it's the thought that counts so just give it a shot. This is a no cook recipe too so you can do it in advance and feel like a pro when you do the grand reveal with absolutely no effort. #winning. When BuzzFeed did their recipe they just used bought 'brownie mix'. Where's the satisfaction in that? Here's a cheeky recipe for super fab brownies using three ingredients. And it's got a cheeky vanilla cheesecake-y top. Living the dream. So this is like our Three Ingredient Brownie recipe but with a cheeky vanilla cheesecake topping! FUNKY. Did it with proper Nutella and it's just gorgeous. I am a huge fan! They're really lovely and moist. Went down very well! I cut it into 6 large slices. This is like a grown up lemon drizzle cake. I made it gluten free because Freddie was running a "gin siesta" and he can't do gluten. Gluten free flour doesn't seem to change how the cake cooks or anything. So just do it. Gin and lemon is a classic combination and it works wonderfully in this cheeky cake. Give it a go! Remember to subscribe to our YouTube channel/like the Facebook page. Saw this recipe on Buzzfeed and wondered whether it actually worked...it only uses three ingredients... is that too good to be true? Watch the video on YouTube or Facebook and read below to find out what we thought. Enjoy! Ingredients
Method Pop everything in a bowl and blend. The mix should turn to a kind of moist blu-tack consistency. Pop a small ball onto a baking tray lined with baking paper. Now flatten it (see vid) and then pop a little chocolate spread in the middle. Grab another small ball of dough and flatten it in the palms of your hands then cover the chocolate spread and pinch the sides together. This recipe, despite Buzzfeed's claim of 18 makes 7 good sized cookies. Cook for 7 mins at 180 then let them cool entirely. The Verdict: they are tasty but not quite cookies; more like thin brownies. Still that's not a bad thing! My housemates really liked them so that's pretty good in itself! Well worth a go considering how easy they are to do. So this recipe came from Sally's Baking Addiction, which is a really fab site for all things sweet. She uses Nutella and Graham crackers but I'm in the UK and they don't have Graham crackers over here so I used digestives. Perfect. Give it a go. Very simple to do and you'll feel like a pro. Scrambled egg. It's a classic. Normally found in a pan. Today, we are doing it in a mug. In a microwave. I was sceptical when I first heard about it but I can confirm it tastes and looks like egg once it's done. So do it. Check out the Nigella video. I only discovered the delights of fajitas the other day and I am now a total convert. They're super easy to make and taste wonderful. Just buy the spices and they'll last for decades. My problem is I eat way too much of it all in one go but if you can resist I reckon this will do you three meals..ish. So here we are. Meat-free Monday. This was actually really good. It's lovely and rich and super healthy. There's that famous "fact" about celery - it is meant to burn more calories than it gives you or something. So if you're trying to be a bit healthier, then this is definitely a good one. And, as I say, it isn't just eating a lettuce leaf. You can eat healthy and well without becoming a rabbit. #profound. The recipe came from a beautiful blog called Sprouted Kitchen. Go check it out! Does about 4 meals. I've frozen some. Wine is pretty key in this one so grab something nice. Check out Barking Booze for some suggestions. This is seriously funky and unbelievably easy. I made this because I spent pretty much the whole day yesterday trying to make a beef brisket thing for supper but it was a disaster! So to make myself feel better, I made this. And have eaten most of it too unfortunately. Anyhow, I reckon this would be a fab pud for date night as you can do it in advance and it looks amazing so you'll feel like a total pro. Give it a shot!
